Parents Ending Prohibition
        . . . because there are better ways to protect kids !
Education is Action !
The most important action we can take is to educate ourselves and our children.  The amount of misinformation that is available on the subject of marijuana is vast and ever-increasing.  Drug "war" supporters argue that we must follow a fear-based approach, while anti-prohibitionists demand knowledge-based policies.  It's vital to learn the differences between these philosophies because our kids' futures will be permanently shaped by them.

Knowledge gives us the power to take further action.  There are as many different ways to take action as there are people willing to do so.  Our voices and our awareness are our strongest assets.  Some of the opportunities to get involved include:
Visit websites on both sides of this issue and subscribe to e-mail lists -- stay informed!

Take opportunities to sign petitions and participate in polls

E-mail, fax, and/or telephone local, state and federal representatives about issues that are important to you

Make appointments and speak personally with your representatives, and tell them what's important to you -- they work for you!

Attend PTA, homeschooling, and other parents groups and open the topic for discussion

Attend demonstrations and add your face and voice in support

Write letters to editors of local and/or national newspapers

Keep the discussion open!
As parents, we cannot afford to stand still and allow our children's futures to be shaped by fear, greed nor intolerance.  Now that we have the opportunity to employ knowledge-based educational programs and policies, we are called to demand nothing less from the people we pay to serve our communities.

In the future, PEP will expand this section, and provide further opportunities to become involved.  To get you started, we suggest visiting the Marijuana Policy Project's site at http://mpp.org.  From there you can choose your own state from their drop-down menu, and find out more about what you can do locally.

Get active -- even if your personal actions are simply educating yourself and talking about marijuana with your friends, colleagues, and relatives.
Knowledge is power !
~ "Real education should educate us out of self into something far finer;
into a selflessness which links us with all humanity."

- Lady Nancy Astor (1879-1964)
